5 PLY CORRUGATED BOXES - Packing Material Specification

Name of the material : 5 Ply Corrugated boxes.
Storage requirements : Keep the boxes on pallets at normal temperature.
Sampling instructions : Follow SOP : xxxxxxx

Qty. of sample to be drawn: Draw 1number from each of the selected bundle as per sampling plan and subject for complete analysis.

1) Variation in dimension.
2) Cutting
3) Cutting & pasting.
4) No. of Ply
5) Rupture of material when the flap is bent back by 180°.
6) Rusting of staples.
7) Code no. if any.

Material : Virgin kraft / Non virgin
Ply : 5 Ply
Dimension : 265 x 26 5x 490mm : ±5 mm
GSM per Ply : 220 GSM X 2 :150 GSM X3 (limit:220±10gsm 150± 10gsm)
Nature of corrugation : a) Type of Flute : Narrow flute
b) No. of flute per 30 cms : 48 to 55
Staples : The stitching flap shall be placed internally. Flat metal staples should be used for angular stitches each. The
staples used should not be rusted.

Finishing : A) Cutting and creasing shall be uniform
B) No rupture of material is noticed when the flaps are bent back by 180°
C) The outer flaps shall meet symmetrically at the centerline and no flap shall project over the edges.
Shop floor or performance : Should comply with regard to actual packing of product
Note. Where C B inner boxes are packed in a master shipper, the tolerance on dimension for inner box and shipper must be such that it allows perfect fitting

1) Grammage : Approximately cut 10 x 10 cm portion of the box and soak it in hot water for 15 minutes. Separate the plies and dry at 80°C. Flatten the surface of plies and find out the gram per square meter for all the plies individually.

2) Bursting strength : Not less than 10kg/cm2

Place the representative sample of the material to be tested over the stage between the diaphragm and the tripod clamp the plate of bursting strength instrument. The sample should be at least 4 " x 4" in size.
Lower the tripod clamp by turning the clamp wheel applying sufficient pressure to prevent slip of the sample during test. Set the maximum hand of the guage at zero or at any point on the scale below the expected bursting strength.
Push the red push button and keep it pressed, so that plunger will start rotating in clockwise direction at constant speed of 120 rpm till sample bursts.
Record the bursting pressure indicated by the maximum hand. Repeat the procedure on several samples or in other areas of the sample as necessary to obtain average bursting pressure.

    wt of cut piece in gm divided by dimension,
    for example
    10x10cm cut piece wt is 0.61g,
    the calculation is
    0.61g/0.1mx0.1m = 61GSM
