Dispensing of Solvents

1.0 PURPOSE :
To have a procedure for the dispensing of the solvents.

2.0 SCOPE:
It covers all the department where solvent is used.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY :
Stores officer and Safety officer

4.0 PROCEDURE:

4.1 Bulk Solvent:
4.1.1 On receipt of the solvent request along with BMR, check the quantity of solvent required for the batch.

4.1.2 Ensure that it is signed by the production manager / general manager.

4.1.3 Sign the solvent permit and enter the time.

4.1.4 Ensure that the quantity of solvent dispensed by the store officer is as mentioned in the Solvent Permit.

4.1.5 Ensure that only the required quantity enters the shop floor, while the rest remains in the storage area in the storeroom.

4.1.6 Issue the quantity required for the coating solution preparation.

4.1.7 After the coating solution is prepared, ensure that only 30 liters is taken for coating in case of Neocota at a time and 20 liters for conventional coating pans at a time.

4.1.8 Ensure the solvent register is filled on line.

4.1.9 Any remaining solvent should be returned back to the storage room without fail.

4.2 Solvent for Analysis:
4.2.1 On receipt of the material request, ensure that it is signed by the department head and the stores head.

4.2.2 Issue only 5 liters maximum (2 x 2.5 liters bottles) of Methanol and Acetonitrile, other solvents not more than 2.5 liters at a time.

4.2.3 Ensure that the entire solvent is used completely.

4.2.4 Any residual solvent removing should be returned to the stores in the evening if there is no continuation or night shift or the lab is closed / locked.
