This document applies to the Xxx Xxx Plant only.

5.0 PURPOSE
To describe the procedure for hazard communication.

6.0 SCOPE
The purpose of this policy is as follows:

6.1 To ensure that the hazards of all chemicals produced, imported and used are evaluated.

6.2 Information concerning the chemical hazards is communicated to all.

6.3 To avoid related occupational hazards.

9.0 PROCEDURE

9.1 Hazard Determination & Communication

The hazard determination and communication is achieved through the following means:

9.1.1 Material Safety Data sheets submitted by the chemical manufacturer, distributor etc.

9.1.2 Hazard Label on the chemical container. This should indicate with the name of chemical, hazard class, health hazards, target organs and protective measures.

9.2 Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)

9.3.1 Prior to the chemical being ordered it shall be approved by the EHS Coordinator.[Note: Chemical products that contain carcinogens shall be substituted with the less hazardous materials. In case carcinogens are used, they must be approved by the International Division EHS]

9.3.2 Requirement: The MSDS for all the chemicals used in the facility are accessible to all employees. Where electronic copies of MSDS are available, it shall be kept on-line in the LAN System also. A hard copy of the MSDS will be made available in an easy to access area of the Plant.

9.3.3 Procurement: The materials department is responsible for obtaining MSDS for all the chemicals being purchased. MSDS which are sent directly to the chemical receiver should be copied by the receiver and sent to the EHS Manager / Coordinator.

9.2.4 Maintenance: The area supervisor is responsible to ensure that all the MSDS are available in the central location and is updated, as the need arises. The on-line MSDS file will also be updated quarterly.

9.3.1 Work Area MSDS s: The executive is responsible to ensure that copy of MSDS for the chemicals being used in their work area are maintained in the vicinity of their location.

9.3.2 MSDS are available on- line via the BaxHealth system. MSDS can be added to this system (at no cost) by forwarding them to the Division EHS

9.3 Labels
9.3.1 Incoming Chemicals: All chemicals received at Xxx Plant premises must be clearly labeled by the supplier according to the hazard class If they are not received with such a label one must be applied in Receiving prior to moving the material to the Warehouse.

9.3.2 In-House Containers: The executive of each area shall ensure that portable containers into which chemicals are transferred for use in their area are labeled properly (after it has been filled up with the hazard rating and the chemical identity) at all times. There shall be no exception.

9.3.3 Container Reuse: If a container is going to be reused, then the original label(s) shall be removed and the container shall be relabeled as per Section 9.2

9.3.4 Outgoing Chemicals: All chemicals, including rejected chemical shall be labeled , chemical identity.

9.3.5 Label Condition: Labels shall not be defaced and shall be maintained in a good condition. If a label gets damaged, worn out or accidentally removed, the container shall be relabeled immediately as per Section 9.2.

9.4 Employee Training& Information
All employees will be trained to read MSDS, labels, hazard recognition and labeling scheme as part of the Safety Training Program.

10.0 CONTRACTOR (S) COMMUNICATION
10.1 The Xxx contact/hiring personnel and or area executive shall review with the contractor executive INA-03-005 - Contractor Compliance Policy, any specific hazards in the work area(s) and provide any requested MSDS.

10.2 The contractor executive is required to provide the Xxx contact and the EHS, MSDS for any hazardous materials they may bring on site or use on site during their job assignment.
