1.0 PURPOSE:
This document describes the procedure to be followed for the treatment of effluent generated from production department.
2.0 SCOPE:
Applicable to Treatment of Effluent
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT EXECUTIVE
4.0 PROCEDURE:
4.1 Effluent/sewage generated should be drained into the drainage system.
4.2 Flow of the effluent.
Source of production --- Bar Screen --- Oil Catch --- Equalisation Tank --- Aeration Tank --- Settling tank --- collection tank --- pressure sand filter --- collection tank ---Garden
4.3 Bar Screen
4.3.1 Check the bar screen for trapped solid particles, once in a week and Remove the solid particles.
4.4 Oil Catch
4.4.1 Check the level of oil in the oil catch and skim the oil off once a month.
4.4.2 Remove the sludge collected at the bottom of the chamber and collect it in 50 lit carboy and transfer it to sludge drying beds.
4.4.3 Empty the oil catch once in three months and clean completely.
4.5 Equalisation Tank:
4.5.1 Pump out the effluent from Equalisation tank to Aeration tank at the rate of 2000 L per hour using the Equalisation tank transfer pump.
4.5.2 Enter the pumping timings in the log book.
4.6 Aeration tank and Settling tank:
4.6.1 Charge the Equalisation tank water at the rate of 2000 L / Hour into the Aeration tank.
4.6.2 Enter the pumping timings in the logbook.
4.6.3 Ensure the aerator is switched on continuously.
4.6.4 Check the MLSS in the aeration tank with a one liter measuring jar. It should be maintained in the range of 2000mg /L to 3000 mg /L by constantly recirculating the MLSS from the settling tank with the transfer pump.
4.6.5 The supernatant flows down to the collection tank.
4.6.6 Add 0.25 kg of DAP to the aeration tank daily and record in the log sheet.
4.7 Pressure sand filter:
4.4.1 Pump the treated water to the pressure sand filter by using the transfer pump.
4.8 Regeneration of the Pressure Sand filter:
4.8.1 Close the service valve and filtrate valve and open the regeneration vale and the drain valve.
4.8.2 Pump filtered water for about 10 min till the suspended particles are removed from the sand medium.
4.8.3 Pump the potable water for 5 min to further clean the media.
4.9 Collection tank:
4.9.1 The filtered water is collected in the collection tank.
4.9.2 Pump this water for garden and record the timings in the logbook.
